LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Warner University men's soccer team began a weekend of Sun Conference play by welcoming the Bees of SCAD-Savannah to Royals Field on Thursday night. The Royals and Bees battled for 65 scoreless minutes until the Bees broke through to score the only goal of the game in the 66th minute and beat the Royals 1-0.
The Royals were outshot 12-2 through the first 45 minutes of play. Anthony Lopez had the best opportunity for the Royals in the 17th minute when he took a shot that ricocheted off the post. Leo Viala was stellar in goal for the Royals and made five saves to keep the game notched at 0-0 until halftime.
The second half was nothing short of a battle. Fouls went back and forth as both teams tried to break through and find the back of the net. At the 65:01 mark, SCAD's Jordan Trinci-Lyne got on the end of a through ball from the right side and just beat the out-stretched arms of Viala. The Royals outshot the Bees 4-3 in the second half but fell short as the final whistle blew. The loss drops the Royals to 3-5 on the season and 1-2 in Sun Conference play.
The Royals will welcome Thomas University (Ga.) on Saturday, Oct. 5th at 6 p.m. for their next match. The visiting Nighthawks come in to the game ranked No. 1 in the latest NAIA Coaches Top-25 Poll.
