LAKE WALES, Fla. – The score line didn't reflect the offensive effort the Warner men's soccer team put out on Wednesday evening. Unfortunately, four consecutive goals from the visiting Fire of Southeastern University led to the Royals fifth Sun Conference loss of the season. The 4-1 defeat drops the Royals to 5-8-1 on the season and 2-5-1 in league play.
The visiting Fire scored with just over seven minutes left to play in the first half and carried that momentum over into the second, scoring three goals in 20 minutes to solidify their victory. Bruno da Silva scored the lone Royals goal off a set piece in the 80th minute but it was too little too late for the home side.
The Royals outshot the Fire 22-16 through the 90 minutes of play, placing 13 on frame and kept the Southeastern goalkeeper busy all night. Nicolo Zini led all players with eight shots followed by teammate da Silva who recorded six.
The Royals look to bounce back on Saturday, Oct. 25 when they travel to Ave Maria, Fla. to take on the Gyrenes at 3 p.m. in a Sun Conference contest. The Royals will close out the 2014 regular season on their home pitch on Wednesday Oct. 29 as cross-town rival Webber International University will visit for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
