Lady Royals Come Up Short Against NCAA-II Panthers

MELBOURNE, Fla. – On the road for the first time this season, Warner University women's basketball team lost to NCAA-II Florida Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon 58-41.  The loss is the first of the 2014-15 season for the Lady Royals (1-1) after they defeated Florida College 73-46 on Tuesday night, Oct. 28.

It was a tough offensive start for the Lady Royals who trailed 32-19 at halftime.  As a team the Lady Royals shot 7-of-25 in the first half and were led by Montana Bass who was 3-for-3 for seven points.

It was a sloppy start as well for both teams with 30 combined turnovers in the first 20 minutes of action.  The Lady Royals had seven steals and three blocked shots but trailed on the scoreboard thanks in part to 15 first half turnovers.

The shooting woes continued for the Lady Royals in the second half with just an 18.5% average from the field.  Leilani Tuani-Fifita led the team with five points in the period.

The Lady Royals were again active on the defensive side of the ball with six steals and three more blocked shots.

The Panthers scored 20 points off Warner turnovers in the game and came away the victors on Saturday afternoon 58-41.

Offensively, the Lady Royals had 11 players score points in the game.  Tuani-Fifita and Bass led the team with seven points each.  Marie Fleurival had six points and seven rebounds before fouling out in the second half.

Next Tuesday, Nov. 4, the Lady Royals return to the Turner Athletic Center for a 7 p.m. tip-off with William Carey University (Miss.).  Fans can follow the game live via video and live stats by clicking here.
