NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – Warner University women's basketball team lost their fourth straight game on Tuesday night 81-64 to Johnson & Wales University. The loss is also the fourth straight in Sun Conference play dropping the Lady Royals to 1-5 in the league standings and 5-10 overall. The Wildcats improve to 7-10 with the win and 2-4 in league play.
The Lady Royals scored the first five points of the game and held a 13-3 lead at the 15:31 mark. Halfway through the opening period,
Corlisa Pope scored to push the Lady Royals' lead back to 10 points at 22-12. The final 10 minutes of the half, however, belonged to the Wildcats as they outscored the Lady Royals 27-11.
Despite shooting 58.3% from the field in the first half the Lady Royals trailed at halftime 39-33. The Wildcats shot 7-of-11 from behind the arc in the first half to combat the Lady Royals hot shooting.
The Warner offense cooled in the second half down to 31.4% shooting while the Wildcats were efficient at 46.4% to maintain their lead the rest of the way. The Lady Royals got within five points twice in the period but the Wildcats stretched their lead back to double-digits to thwart the comeback bid.
Baylie Bridges led the team with 12 points and six assists.
Montana Bass followed with 11 points and
Marie Fleurival added 10 points. Fleurival also had one block and four steals.
Leilani Tuani-Fifita was the leading rebounder for the Lady Royals with nine boards to go along with eight points.
On Thursday, Jan. 22, the Lady Royals wrap up their three game road trip at Ave Maria University. The Sun Conference showdown will start at 5:30 p.m. from the Tom Golisano Field House in Ave Maria, Fla.
