DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – In their final non-conference game of the season, Warner University women's basketball team lost to Southwestern College (Kan.) 79-59 to conclude day two of the 2015 Bahama House & Best Western Aku Tiki Shootout hosted by Embry-Riddle University. The Lady Royals end the tournament with a 1-1 record and return home with a 4-6 overall mark on the season.
On a tough offensive afternoon, the Lady Royals held the lead briefly at the outset of the first half.
Hannah Kotzen picked up where she left off on Friday with a three pointer to give Warner the lead 8-6 at the 18:30 mark.
The Builders, behind 50% shooting from the field, retook the lead on their next possession and never trailed the rest of the half jumping out to an 11-point lead at the 12:49 mark. The Builders led by as many as 17 down the stretch but
Mariah Williams hit two free throws with one second left to narrow the Lady Royals' deficit to 10, 41-31, heading into halftime.
Kotzen and
Baylie Bridges led the Lady Royals first half scoring effort with eight points each.
The start of the second half was one to forget for the Lady Royals as they missed on their first nine shots.
Montana Bass gave Warner their first points with a layup at the 14:41 mark ending a 12-0 run by the Builders.
The Builders used 6-of-15 shooting from behind the arc in the second half to thwart the Lady Royals comeback hopes winning 79-59.
Warner's
I'munique Green was the only Lady Royal in double figures and finished with 17 points and eight rebounds, all off the bench. For the game the Lady Royals shot 29.6% from the field and were outrebounded 55-40 by the Builders.
The Lady Royals return home for their 2015 home opener next Wednesday, Jan. 7, in their second Sun Conference game of the season against Embry-Riddle University. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. in the Turner Athletic Center.
