LAKE WALES, Fla. – Ten players scored points leading to a 37-point victory for Warner University women's basketball team over NCAA-III Thiel College on Monday night in the Turner Athletic Center. The Lady Royals led by as many as 40 points and had five players score at least 10 points in the win improving their record to 6-4. The Tomcats remain winless on the year and drop to 0-9.
The Lady Royals got off to a great start in the first quarter with a 22-9 lead after the first 10 minutes. Defensively, the Lady Royals forced five turnovers in the first quarter setting the tone for the game. They added 10 more turnovers in the second quarter and led 38-21 at halftime.
As a team the Lady Royals dominated the rebounding battle with a 27-9 advantage over the Tomcats. Williams led all players with the 10 points at the break.
Sara Poehlman scored eight first half points as well.
The Lady Royals' lead grew to 25 points at the end of the third quarter, 56-31. The Warner defense pressured the Tomcats into eight third quarter turnovers while the offense shot 7-for-9 from the free throw line.
In the fourth quarter, the Tomcats were held to just six points as the Lady Royals shot 50% from the field and extended their lead to as many as 40 points before settling for their largest margin of victory this season, 37 points.
Isis Mance and
Mariah Williams led the Lady Royals with 12 points each.
Sara Poehlman and
Porsche Shakes both finished with 11 points.
I'munique Green was 6-of-8 from the free throw line and finished with 10 points as well for Warner.
The Lady Royals dominated the boards outrebounding the Tomcats 47-25. Mance led all players with seven rebounds.
Kashari James and
Kayla Guerrero both had six boards in the victory for Warner.
The Lady Royals take to the road for the next two day for a pair of NCAA-I competitions. First on Tuesday, Dec. 15, the Lady Royals travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. to take on Bethune-Cookman University at 7 p.m. Then on Wednesday, Dec. 16, the Lady Royals will be in Jacksonville, Fla. to face the University of North Florida at 5 p.m. Both games will serve as exhibitions for the Lady Royals.
