Lions Trip Up Lady Royals on the Road 64-61

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - In their final road game of the 2014-15 regular season, Warner University women's basketball team lost to Florida Memorial University 64-61 on Saturday night.  The Lady Royals are now 6-18 following the loss and 2-13 in The Sun Conference.  The Lions improve to 10-16 overall and 7-8 in league play.

The Lady Royals scored the first points of the game on a Marie Fleurival basket but after Diamond Colebrooke answered with a three pointer on the ensuing Lions' possession, the Lady Royals trailed the rest of the half.

With 4:33 to go before halftime the Lions held their largest lead of the game, 32-22.  An 8-2 run by the Lady Royals narrowed the deficit to four points, 34-30, with 1:48 to go but the Lions scored the final four points and carried an eight point lead into the break, 38-30.

The Lady Royals came out strong in the second half and tied the game at 40-40 thanks to a 10-2 run in the first four minutes of action.  Fleurival had five of the 10 Warner points in the run.  At the midway point of the second half, the Lions had regained the lead and were out in front by seven, 53-46.

The rest of the way the Lion maintained their lead while the Lady Royals continued to chip away.  In the final minute, the Lady Royals' Montana Bass drained a three pointer to bring Warner within one point 61-60 with 55 seconds left.  Back to back turnovers however, thwarted the Lady Royals comeback chances as they were forced to foul.  Three made free throws in the final 15 seconds by the Lions was enough to keep the game out of reach.

Montana Bass recorded her second straight 16-point game and her fifth straight game with at least 14 points scored.  The freshman finished 4-of-8 from behind the arc and also led the team with four steals.

Marie Fleurival had 15 rebounds to lead all players and added 14 points to pick up her fifth double-double of the season.

Next week the Lady Royals close out the regular season portion of the 2014-15 schedule with three home games at the Turner Athletic Center.  On Tuesday, Feb. 17, Northwood University comes to town for a 5 p.m. tip-off.  Then on Thursday, Feb. 19, Johnson & Wales University and the Lady Royals square off at 5 p.m.  Saturday Feb. 21, marks the end of the regular season with a 2 p.m. tip-off with Ave Maria University.  All three games can be seen live online on the Royals Sports Network.
