MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - The 2014-15 Warner University women's basketball season came to an end on Tuesday night in the opening round of The Sun Conference Tournament. The eighth seeded Lady Royals lost on the road to top seeded and No. 23 St. Thomas University 66-52 in the Fernandez Family Center. The Lady Royals' season comes to an end with a 9-19 overall record. The Bobcats advance to the tournament semifinals with a 25-4 record.
Despite holding a 5-1 lead early in the first half, the Lady Royals fell behind quickly thanks to a 16-0 run by the Bobcats down to the 11:21 mark.
Hannah Kotzen got the Lady Royals to within 10 points of the lead, 23-13, with 4:25 to go before halftime but the Bobcats scored the final six points of the half and led 29-13 at the break.
The Lady Royals had a tough first half offensively shooting 16.7% from the field and 12 turnovers.
Eliana Albert led the team with five points and six rebounds.
The Bobcats stretched their lead to 25 points in the first five minutes of the second half with an 11-2 run. The Lady Royals answered with a 13-3 run down to the 10:49 mark narrowing the Bobcats' lead to 43-28.
The Lady Royals shot 56% from the field in the second half and got 12 points off the bench from
Mariah Williams. With 8:44 left in the game, Williams got the Lady Royals to within 11 points, 45-34, with a fastbreak layup. Over the next four minutes the Bobcats lead ballooned to 22 points after a 10-0 run down to the 4:28 mark.
Kotzen ended the Lady Royals' scoring with a pair of free throws in the final seconds to close out the game 66-52 in favor of the Bobcats.
Williams led the Lady Royals in scoring with her 12 points in the second half. Kotzen finished with 11 points and three steals.
Marie Fleurival also scored 10 points and had four rebounds.
Eliana Albert finished with a team-high eight rebounds and three steals.
