MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Bobcats of St. Thomas University swept the season series from Warner University in Sun Conference women's basketball action on Tuesday night. The Bobcats led by 11 at halftime and cruised in the second half to a 65-46 victory over the Lady Royals. The loss is the ninth in a row for the Lady Royals and drops their record to 5-15 overall and 1-10 in league play. The Bobcats improve to 17-4 and stay atop the conference standings at 10-1.
The Lady Royals came out blazing in the first half jumping out to a nine point lead, 23-14, at the 9:56 mark.
Montana Bass was a big reason for the Lady Royals' early success. The Warner freshman scored 13 points in the first half and was perfect from the floor (5-for-5).
After the second media timeout of the half, the Bobcats came to life and erased the Lady Royals' lead with a 12-3 run to tie the game at 26-26 with 4:54 to go before halftime.
Overall, the Bobcats closed the half on a 25-5 run as the Lady Royals went scoreless over the final six minutes of the half.
Baylie Bridges broke the scoring drought with a layup at the end of the half sending the teams to the locker room with St. Thomas on top 39-28.
The second half was all Bobcats as they lengthened their lead to 13 points after the first five minutes and led by as many as 24 in the game. After a 52.2% shooting performance in the first half the Lady Royals offense cooled to 32% shooting in the second half including a 1-for-7 mark from behind the arc.
The Bobcats had their way around the rim in the game outrebounding the Lady Royals 39-18 with 32 points in the paint.
Bass finished the game with a season-high 16 points and was 6-of-9 from the field.
Marie Fleurival chipped eight points and five rebounds before fouling out.
Mariah Williams led the bench effort with seven points as well.
The Lady Royals return to the Turner Athletic Center on Thursday, Feb. 5, to welcome in Thomas University (Ga.). The Night Hawks won the first meeting of the season between the two schools 60-45 back on Jan. 10. Thursday's conference tilt will tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
