Royals Lose a Heartbreaker to Tritons 2-1

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - In their first road match of the 2015 season, Warner University men's soccer team lost a heartbreaker to Eckerd College on Saturday night 2-1.  The NCAA-II Tritons scored the game winner in the two minutes of the game to drop the Royals' record to 0-1-1.

The Royals got outshot in the first half 12-4 but goalkeeper David Bartalos kept a clean sheet and the two sides went into halftime knotted at 0-0.

A weather delay kept the teams off the field to start the second half but when play resumed the Tritons found the back of the net first in the 50th minute.  The Royals flipped the shot chart in the second half and outshot the Tritons 11-8 ultimately scoring the equalizer in the 57th minute.  Eddy De Abreu scored on an indirect free kick off the assist from Camilo Diaz.

As the physicality picked up in the second half, seven yellow cards were handed out including two for the Royals.

After over 30 minutes of scoreless action following the Bartalos goal, Eckerd's Mauricio Salvatierra scored what would be the game winner in the 89th minute.

David Bartalos picked up 11 saves in the match including eight in the first half.

De Abreu recorded four of Warner's 15 shots in the game.  Priit Peedo had three shots as well.

Next Tuesday night, Sept. 8, the Royals return to the pitch in the first leg of the annual Crooked Lake Cup against Webber International University.  The Royals host the first leg while the Warriors host the return game on Oct. 28.  Tuesday's non-conference friendly will start at 7 p.m.
