AVE MARIA, Fla.- The Royals men's and women's tennis teams traveled to Ave Maria to take on the Gyrenes in their second conference matchup of the season. The Royals men's team went out and swept the Gyrenes 9-0 in their contest.
Rafael Coutinho led the way for the Royals as he won his singles match 6-1, 6-1 along with winning his doubles match with partner,
Martynas Lukosiunas, 8-1 in the #1 position.
Carlos Pinel and
Julian Cuartas had a big day in the doubles #2 position as they didn't drop a game and won 8-0 over their opponents. In the end, the Royals would only lose 24 games the entire day to the Gyrenes.
The women had a big day as well as they would go on to defeat the Gyrenes 5-1 on the day. The only loss for the Royals came in the singles #1 position, but the Royals were able to sweep the doubles competitions with
Paula Ordonez and
Luiza Arroyo winning 9-7 in the #1 position and
Caitlin Ryan and
Thalia Roustand winning 8-0 in the #2 position. Roustand would have a big day as she would sweep her opponent in the singles match 6-0, 6-0 to not lose a game on the day.
The Royals next match will be February 25 at home versus St. Thomas.
