Women’s Basketball Sluggish 1st Quarter Causes Fall to Mariners

BRUNSWICK, GA. – Lady Royals drop the Sun Conference matchup 76-57 to the Mariners of Coastal Georgia. I'munique Green continued to shine with 19 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double.

Inconsistency reared its unwanted head last night for the Royals. Daijah Turner started things off on a good note with a drained 3-pointer assisted from Sara Poehlman. Following that, the Royals struggled in the first quarter trailing 18-8 to the Mariners. They balanced out and fought a good second quarter, the problem was the Mariners had already established a commanding lead.

Second half play continued and the Royals battled riding the jersey tails of I'munique Green (19 pts), Jasmine Celestin (14 pts) and Daijah Turner (13 pts), it was just not enough to close the gap as the Mairiners maintained a 10 point lead. For the Mariners, Brianna Gipson proved unstoppable as she threw up 27 points and 11 rebounds.
