LAKE WALES, Fla. - The Warner men's soccer team opened up their 2018 season at home against Ave Maria and thanks to a strong second half from the Royals offense the team came away with a 3-1 victory. The first started slow and saw neither team produce much offense throughout the entire half; other than a yellow card against the Royals the half had little excitement and ended in a 0-0 tie.
The second half saw the offense come alive for both sides. The Royals struck first with a goal in the 51st minute by #7
Daniel Rodriguez, assisted by #3
Kenolson Collin, but Ave Maria soon followed up with a goal of their own by #9 Kaveon Dux and the game was once again tied. In the 77th minute #19
Juan Gazzotti was fouled inside the penalty box and was awarded a penalty kick; Gazzotti nailed the goal to put Warner on top 2-1. The Royals were not finished and less than a minute after the penalty kick #7
Daniel Rodriguez knocked in his second goal of the day off an assist by #10
Dawson Johnson. Out the gate Rodriguez established himself as the men's premiere scorer and we look for many more exciting things from him and the team this year.
The men start off the year undefeated at home and look to keep the momentum going as they take on Faulkner University (ALA.) at home Thursday August 23, 2018 at 5:00 pm.
