Warner Men's Soccer - Royals Host No. 13 Fire In Sun Conference Game Of The Week

TAMPA, Fla.— No. 13 Southeastern entered the 2019 season with the label of favorite to win The Sun Conference championship after being selected the number one team in the preseason balloting by the league coaches.

And, so far, the Fire have lived up to that billing.

Southeastern owns a 9-0-1 record to date, its only blemish being a 1-1 2OT tie vs. Grace (Ind.) in a neutral-site match back on Aug. 28. Since then, the Fire has reeled off seven straight victories, including conference wins over Webber International (5-0), then-No. 13 St. Thomas (2-0) and RV Keiser (2-0). Southeastern has posted shutout victories in its last five victories.

Another test for the league favorites comes Wednesday night (Oct. 9) when the Fire travel south to Lake Wales, Fla., for a Sun Conference matchup with the Warner Royals, one of three teams tied for second in the league standings.  Warner enters the contest with a 5-4 overall record and a 2-1 mark in TSC play. The Royals dropped a 4-0 match at No. 14 St. Thomas this past Saturday, snapping a three-game winning streak. Since falling in their first two contests of the season, the Royals have rebounded to win five of their last seven, including road wins at league rivals Thomas and Florida Memorial.

Wednesday night's contest is slated for a 7 p.m. start in Lake Wales. Southeastern leads the overall series between the two Polk Country rivals by a 10-5 margin with one tie.
