LAKE WALES, FLA. - The Warner Royals Men's tennis team took on rival Webber International University yesterday afternoon and unfortunately fell to the Warriors 8-1.
Doubles
Doubles #1 – Tare Mariga and Ivan Bondarenko (Webber) defeated
Matheus Aquino and
Vitor Wagner (WU) 8-2 during the first doubles matchup of the day.
Doubles #2 – Hugp Hasegawa and Marc Schneider (Webber) defeated
Julian Cuartas and
Filipe Gil (WU) in the second doubles match.
Doubles #3 – Matthew Alexander and Kyle Hall (Webber) barely edged out
Henrique Dias and
Bruno Carvalho (WU) 9-7 in the third and final doubles match of the day.
Singles
Hugo Hasegawa (Webber) defeated
Matheus Aquino (WU) after three sets. The first set went to Aquino 6-3, but the last two were captured by Hasegawa 6-3 and 6-1.
Ivan Bondarenko (Webber) defeated
Julian Cuartas (WU) in three sets. Bondarenko took the first and third sets 6-1 and 6-4, while Cuartas nabbed the middle set 6-3.
Tare Mariga (Webber) defeated
Vitor Wagner (WU) in two sets with identical scores of 6-4.
In the fourth matchup,
Filipe Gil (WU) defeated Christof Buehler (Webber) in three sets. He won the first and third sets with scores of 6-4 and 1-0 but gave up the second set 6-1.
Marc Schneider (Webber) defeated
Bruno Carvalho (WU) in three sets. Carvalho took possession of the first set 7-6, but Schneider grabbed the last two sets 6-1 and 1-0.
In the final matchup, Rodrigo De Queiroz (Webber) defeated
Henrique Dias (WU) 8-2.
The Royals are now 1-6 on the season and up next will face SCAD in Savannah, Georgia on Saturday, February 23
