LAKE WALES – FLA. The Warner University Men's Tennis team has been playing very well and has won 3 of their last 4 games. This morning, The Royals faced off with Missouri Baptist University and defeated them 7-2.
Doubles
Matheus Aquino and
Filipe Gil (WU) defeated Rodrigo Rattes and Lucas Lobao (MBU) 8-4 in the first doubles matchup.
In the second doubles matchup, Patrick Szymczak and Hillary Ncube (MBU) were defeated by
Julian Cuartas and
Bruno Carvalho (WU) 8-5.
The third matchup went to Royals
Henrique Dias and
Antonio Santos by default.
Singles
Matheus Aquino (WU) defeated Rodrigo Rattes (MBU) by scores of 6-3 and 7-4, dropping the second set 6-7.
The second singles matchup saw
Julian Cuartas (WU) defeat Patrick Szymczak (MBU) 6-3 and 6-2.
In the third singles set, Lucas Lobao (MBU) defeated
Filipe Gil (WU) 5-4 and 6-0.
The fourth singles matchup featured Hillary Ncube (MBU) who defeated
Bruno Carvalho (WU) 6-4 and 10-4, dropping set one to Carvalho 2-6.
In the fifth matchup,
Henrique Dias (WU) defeated Seth Grady (MBU) with identical scores of 6-0.
Finally,
Antonio Santos (WU) won his match by default.
Over the past week, the Royals Tennis Teams competed in Hilton Head, South Carolina in a Spring Break tournament.
The Men's Team brought home 2 wins and one loss. Warner defeated NCAA DII Wilkes University 8-0, and NCAA DIII Methodist University 5-4. Their loss came from NCAA DII Tiffin University with a score of 3-6.

Filipe Gil,
a freshman from Figueira Da Foz, Portugal earned his first NCCAA athlete of the week award by going 3-1 on the week. Against NCAA DII Wilkes University, Gil won at No. 4 singles (6-0, 6-0) and No. 2 doubles (8-1). In the NCAA DIII Methodist University match, Gil lost at No. 4 singles (3-6, 0-6), but won at No. 2 doubles (8-6). Gil and
Julian Cuartas have won 3-straight doubles matches in the No. 2 position while improving to 6-2 in their last 8 doubles matches.
