Box Score 2 LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Warner Royals split their first two games of the WU Invitational, defeating Siena Heights 8-3 and dropping game 2 of the day 2-1 to Madonna University.
Xanders Vazquez tied the Warner single season record for consecutive games with a hit with, 18, set by
Broderick Rodocker in 2015. Vazquez leads the Royals in batting average so far this season, hitting .441.
Warner was the away team in their 1
st game of the day and then finished the day as the home team in game 2.

GAME 1
Ryan Klingler made his 1
st start of the year on the mound for Warner in the first game of their double header, pitching 4 innings and striking out 2 before being relieved by
Kody Smith who pitched 2 innings before being relieved by
Luke Myers; Myers closed things out for the Royals in the 7
th inning, sealing their 8-3 win.
The Royals jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2
nd inning when
Deven Kirkland singled to right field, bringing home
Taylor Briggs; Briggs pinch ran for
Alex Vazquez after he was hit by a pitch.
Warner brought 2 runs across the plate in the top of the 3
rd inning when
Ronny Penalo grounded into a FC bringing home
Xanders Vazquez and then when Penalo stole 2
nd base, allowing
Scott Fickas to score from 3
rd base.
Siena Heights scored 1 run in the bottom of the 4
th inning and added another run in the 5
th, lowering the deficit to just 1 run.
The Royals led 3-2 to start the 6
th inning but turned on the offense, scoring 5 runs off a homerun from
Deven Kirkland, a single from
Rio Russell, a
Xanders Vazquez double and an
Alex Vazquez single.
Siena Heights added their 3
rd run of the game in the bottom of the 7
th inning but fell to the Royals 8-3.
GAME 2
The Royals took on the Madonna University Crusaders in their 2
nd game of the WU invitational tournament.
Michael Batten took the mound for the Royals making his 4
th start of the season. Batten pitched magnificently for the Royals, only giving up 4 hits, 3 BB and striking out 14 Crusaders.
The Crusaders did just as good a job keeping the Royals hitters off balance in the pitching duel, striking out 9 Royals as a staff, while only allowing 5 hits.
The Crusaders scored both their runs in the 2
nd and 3
rd innings, off a hit and error to left field in the 2
nd and off a wild pitch in the 3
rd inning.
The Royals added 1 to the board in the bottom of the 3
rd when
Rio Russell singled to center field bringing home
Josh Strickland.
With the double header split the Royals are now 19-6 on the season and are set to take on Spring Arbor and Michigan-Dearborn today in day 2 of the WU Invitational.
