LAKE WALES, FL- The Royals faced off against Sterling College Warriors (Kan.) in Day Two of The Warner Classic in Lake Wales, Fla.
This game featured an offensive showdown that saw the Royals and Warriors combine for 70 points in the first half. Both teams came out the gate firing, but it was the Royals 40% field goal percentage and 93% shooting from the charity stripe that gave them an eight-point lead at half time. Both teams would trade blows throughout the game, but ultimately came down to the fourth quarter, where the Warriors rebounding would pull them ahead (78-76). The Royals were led by great performance from
Courtney Logan as she scored 22 points, draining three threes on an modest 40% shooting from the field. Even more impressive was Logan's five steals in the first half, that helped Warner build first-half momentum. The Royals found gold at the free throw line today, scoring 23 points from the stripe alone. Capitalizing off turnovers was a big standout, as the Warriors and Royals scored 18 and 24 points off turnovers respectively.
Jasmine Edwards continues to be a pivotal part of the Royals offense, leading the team with 25 points, along with eight rebounds, and 81% shooting from the line. The Warriors got a big-time performance from Korynn Clason as she finished with 25 points, five assists and eight rebounds. Sterling brought the heat in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Royals (28-16) and mounting a late game comeback. The Royals tied the game with less than a minute left, but it was two, final-second free throws from Clason that sealed the game. This is a gut-wrenching loss for Warner as they held the lead for most of the game.
Chyna Bullen contributed in a big way finishing one rebound short of a double-double. On the day, she notched ten points, nine rebounds, and four assists. The Royals will look to bounce back next week when they take on Siena Heights University (Mich.) in a non-conference match-up.
