BRUNSWICK, GA - In a tough SUN Conference outing for Warner University's Women's Basketball team, the Royals faced a challenging game against Coastal Georgia on January 25, 2025, at Brunswick, Ga. The matchup ended with a substantial 84-56 defeat for the Royals who now hold a 5-12 record for the season.
The game started unevenly for Warner, as Coastal Georgia quickly took an early lead, ending the first period ahead 19-9. Despite a steady effort from
Kalyah Watson, who emerged as Warner's top scorer with 13 points, Coastal Georgia maintained their momentum and controlled the game from start to finish. Watson also delivered on defense, leading with 3 assists and managing a steal.
Warner's struggle was notable in the rebounding and turnover departments where Coastal Georgia dominated. Warner's
Courtney Logan managed to secure both an offensive and a defensive rebound, but it was far from enough to turn the tide. The halftime score reflected the growing gulf between the teams with Coastal Georgia leading 40-23.
Into the second half, Coastal Georgia stretched their lead even further, powered by key performances from their top players. By the end of the third quarter, the gap had widened to 61-33. Warner attempted a comeback in the fourth quarter with
Samaria Sims scoring multiple baskets and contributing two steals, but Coastal Georgia's defense held strong, closing the game at 84-56.
Looking ahead, the Royals aim to regroup and come back stronger in their next regular season encounter against Florida Memorial in Lake Wales, FL. Despite the tough loss, the team remains focused on improvement and better outcomes in the upcoming games.
