LAKE WALES, Fla. - The Royals fell to SUN Conference opponent St. Thomas University at home Saturday, 65-59.
The Royals defense shined in the 1st half holding the Bobcats to only 23 points going 6-for-34 from the field (17.6%, FG%) and prevented STU from making a 3-pointer going 0-11 on the half. Warner used their defense to take a 24-23 lead into halftime. Both team's offenses came alive in the 2nd half turning the game from a defensive battle into a shoot-out. STU started to pull away from the Royals late in the game to win 65-59
Aleyna Sherman led the Royals on the scoreboard with
17 points going 5-13 overall with 1 3-pointer and went 6-8 from the FT line. Sherman also recorded
2 Steals, 1 Assist and
4 Rebounds.
Julia Gilbert added
11 points of her own going
3-for-6 (50%) from beyond the 3PT arc.
Alexis Randall recorded a team high
8 Rebounds, which is a
new career high for the Sophomore, and recorded
1 Steal on the day.
The Royals shot 17-54 (31.5%) overall, 5-12 (41.7%) from 3PT distance and 20-27 (74.1%) from the FT Line. The Royals also recorded 13 points off Turnovers on the day, while the Warner bench scored 20 points.
The Royals will look to regroup as they travel to Southeastern University next Wednesday.
