RECAP: Bishop Scores His 2nd Career Goal Against FMU

LAKE WALES, Fla. - The Royals Men's Soccer team continued their SUN Conference campaign on Wednesday night when they hosted the Lions of Florida Memorial University. Warner battled with FMU throughout the game, but could not mount a comeback despite a late goal by Wade Bishop and would fall to FMU 3-to-1.

Wednesday's SUN Conference match opened up with a flurry of action seeing 4 fouls called and 2 shots recorded as both teams attempted to establish control of the game during the opening 20 minutes. FMU found the back of the net first in the 22nd minute, but the Royals answered refused to back down and would record the next 3 shots of the game, including 2 shots on goal, over the next 8 minutes. Against the run of play FMU netted their 2nd goal of the evening in the 36th minute putting the Royals down 2 heading into the break.

The Royals came out of halftime with renewed energy opening the half 3 shots, 2 on goal and a corner kick in the first 8 minutes of the half. In the 60th minute FMU scored their 3rd goal of the game, but Warner refused to go down with out a fight. Just over 13 minutes later, the Royals created a turnover in the middle of the field before hitting a through ball to Wade Bishop behind the Lions defense. Bishop collected the pass, drove into the box, and slotted the ball past the FMU goalie for his 2nd Career goal to put the Royals on the scoreboard. Warner would create a few more chances over the course of the final 15 minutes, but were unable to mount the comeback and fell by a final score of 3-to-1.

Warner's final stat line saw the Royals record 11 total shots, 8 on goal, 1 corner kick and 9 saves by Senior Mikey Melvin. In spite of the loss, Melvin had a tremendous night between the posts recording his second highest saves in a single game and most saves this season with 9. Melvin's career best came last season when the Sweedish goalkeeper secured 15 saves against Life University on September 1st, 2025.
