LAKE WALES, Fla. - Warner Women's Lacrosse returned home to the Tye Athletic Field on Monday, February 23, facing a tough test against No. 3 NAIA-ranked University of the Cumberlands in Lake Wales, Florida. Despite the 23-2 final, the Royals showed resilience and moments of promise against one of the nation's top programs.
Cumberlands set the tone early, capitalizing on possessions and building an early lead. Warner continued to compete throughout the contest, battling in the midfield and working to generate offensive opportunities against a disciplined defensive unit.
The Royals found the back of the net twice, with Makenna Day and Ella McFadden each recording a goal. E'Mya Miller and Anaya Lister contributed offensively with an assist apiece, helping facilitate Warner's scoring chances.
Defensively, Warner showed determination against a high-powered attack. Abigail Petrillo led the team with three ground balls, while Anaya Lister anchored a strong defensive effort with three caused turnovers, consistently applying pressure and disrupting the Patriots' rhythm.
Facing a nationally ranked opponent provided valuable early-season experience for the Royals, who continue to build chemistry and adjust as the season progresses.
Warner will now shift its focus to its next road matchup against Montreat College on February 27 in North Carolina.
