LAKE WALES, Fla. - The Royals Men's Soccer team returned home on Saturday to host Contenetial Athletic Conference opponent, Carolina University in what was the Royals lone home match for the month of September. Despite the Royals 2nd half push, the Bruins ultimately took the match by a score of 4-to-1.
Carolina University jumped out in front of the Royals early, scoring twice in the opening 10 minutes of play. The Royals settled in soon after and began creating chances throughout the half, yet were unable to find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes of play. The Bruins would go on to net one more goal before the end of the half to enter the break with a score of 3-0 in favor of the visitors.
The Royals refused to go down without a fight, fighting back to outshoot Carolina 11 to 4 in the 2nd half and 18 to 8 over the course of the 90 minutes. Warner also earned an impressive 7 corner kicks to the Bruins 2, showing that the Royals pressed forward all the way to the end. The Royals hard work paid off in the 69th minute when the team created a beautifully built up goal in response to Carolina's 4th goal of the match. Off the kickoff, the Royals successfully worked the ball from their fullbacks and up the field on 7 consecutive passes to cut through the Bruins defense which culminated with a perfectly placed through ball from
Zane Henriques that lead to
Jackson Davenport's 9th goal of the season. Warner continued to put pressure on Carolina through the remainder of the match, but were unable to mount the comeback and would fall 4-to-1.
Warner will look to bounce next week when they head back on the road to take on Point University in West Point, Georgia.
