Laura Newton of the Women’s Soccer team give us a behind the scene glimpse of the team’s journey to Buffalo N.Y. to play their season opener in the Daemen College (N.Y.) Invitational over the holiday weekend. They play their season opener Friday vs. host Daemen and will play upstart program SUNY ESF on Sunday. Newton will check in daily to give us an update on the happenings of your Royals women’s soccer team, here is her first entry:

LAKE WALES, Fla. – In the first athletic event of the 2010-11 school year the Warner University men’s soccer team opened the athletic season with a 1-0 win over cross-town rival Webber International University in a non-conference match to kickoff the first leg of the Pizzano’s Crooked Lake Cup Championship Wednesday (Sept. 1) at Royals Field.

BABSON PARK, Fla. – Behind a solid offensive and defensive performance from the Warner University women’s volleyball team, the Royals opened their 2010 season with a bang by sweeping through the competition of the Webber International Invitational Saturday at the Sabbagh Athletic Center to open the season at 3-0.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Sun Conference announced the coaches’ preseason polls for men’s soccer, volleyball and women’s soccer Thursday and Warner was picked to finish fifth, sixth and seventh respectively with reigning Commissioner Cup winner Embry-Riddle University picked to claim the conference crown in each sport.

LAKE WALES, Fla. – Warner University men’s soccer head coach Kurt Bienias is proud to announce the designation of Fabio Tamayo as head assistant coach for the upcoming 2010 season. Tamayo is entering his third season as an assistant coach for the Royals.

Athletes of the Week
Women's Track & Field
Pope earned her third consecutive The Sun Conference Field Athlete of the Year Award after helping the Royals finish second in The Sun Conference Track & Field Championships. She totaled 32 of the women's team's 175.5 points after winning the Shot Put, finishing second in the Javelin Throw and Discus Throw and third in the Hammer Throw.
Softball
In the pivotal game three of the conference series with #15 Savannah College of Art & Design, Helms made her first conference start and earned her first conference win after pitching a complete game gem where she held the Bees to only one run.
