AVE MARIA, Fla. – The Warner men's soccer team earned an important 1-0 victory over the Gyrenes of Ave Maria University on the road Saturday afternoon. The Royals are still looking to clinch a post-season berth and the win boosted their chances as they now sit in 7th place in the Sun Conference standings.
Nicolo Zini converted an unassisted goal in the 29th minute for the game's lone score. The goal was Zini's fourth of the season. Zini also led the Royals with four shots in the game.
The Royals outshot the Gyrenes 12-6 and placed four shots on goal. Leo Viala earned his first shutout of the season in goal for the Royals, making three saves.
The Royals improve to 6-8-1 on the season and 3-5-1 in conference play. The Royals will play their final game of the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 29 on their home pitch against cross-town rivals, Webber International University. That game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
