ROAD TOWN, British Virgin Islands – In their first of two games in the B.V.I. Tropical Shootout, Warner University men's basketball team defeated Montreat College (N.C.) 88-62 on Friday night. The win keeps the Royals' perfect thus far in the 2014-15 season and runs their winning streak to seven games (7-0); the Cavaliers fall to 3-3.
The Royals were hot in the first half leading 43-29 at halftime thanks to 66.7% shooting from the field.
Warren Hall's big night started with a three-pointer at the 12:33 mark that broke a 10-10 tie. The shot sparked the Royals on a 14-4 run over the next three minutes.
Josh Ellis put the Royals ahead 24-14 with a bucket at the 9:06 mark.
The Royals were efficient from the free throw line in the opening half going 10-for-13.
The Royals' offense cooled off slightly in the second half to the tune of 57.1% shooting from the floor. The Royals played great around the rim all night against the Cavaliers dominating points in the paint (50-28).
The Cavaliers got to within nine points of the Royals at the 12:17 mark of the second half, but the Royals were too much leading by as many as 27 points down the stretch.
Nine players scored points for the Royals in the game.
Warren Hall led all players with his fourth 20-point performance of the season. Hall finished 10-of-13 from the field for 27 points. He also had a game-high four steals.
The Royals' leading rebounder,
Eddie Delegal posted his third double-double of the season finishing with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
Both
Jamie Anderson and
Bladimyr Santiago had eight points in the victory as well. Anderson led all players with five assists.
On Saturday, Nov. 29, the Royals wrap up their Thanksgiving trip with an 8 p.m. tip-off against the University of the Virgin Islands. The Royals were victorious in the teams' only other meeting back in 2012 winning 106-73.
