LAKE WALES, Fla. - Warner University men's basketball team bounced back after their first loss of the season on Saturday defeating Grace College (Ind.) handily 68-50 on Monday afternoon. The win is the tenth of the season for the Royals and improves their record to 10-1. The Lancers out of the Crossroads League drop to 10-4 on the season.
The Royals defense was on display in the first half as they forced seven Grace turnovers and blocked five shots holding the visitors to 34.8% shooting from the field. The Royals on the other hand shot 53.1% from the field and eight players score points.
Josh Ellis hit 1-of-2 free throws with one second left to give the Royals a 40-27 lead going into halftime.
Eddie Delegal led the team with nine first half points.
Bladimyr Santiago followed with eight points.
Brandon Poore had two of Warner's five team blocks in the half and one steal.
The second half started with a pair of runs by each team. After the Royals scored the first bucket of the second half, the Lancers went on a 9-0 run narrowing the Warner lead to six, 42-36, at the 16:32 mark. Over the next three minutes the Royals countered with an 8-0 run of their own down to the 12:49 mark running their lead out to 14 points, 50-36.
The Royals' defense settled in after the Lancers' hot start and held Grace to 28.1% shooting from the field the rest of the way. Down the stretch the Royals held their largest lead of the game, 65-44, and cruised to a 68-50 victory.
Delegal finished with a game-high 18 points and had three rebounds. Santiago scored 12 points and grabbed four rebounds in limited action.
The Royals got great bench play against the Lancers scoring 34 points.
Warren Hall led the way with 11 points.
Jason Pospichal played 17 minutes and scored nine points.
Antonio Ansley chipped in seven points as well.
Following the Christmas break, the Royals return to the Turner Athletic Center for their first game of 2015 on Jan. 7 against No. 7 Embry-Riddle University. The Eagles are currently 10-0 and one of three undefeated teams in NAIA Division II Men's Basketball.
