Second Half Surge Propels Lady Royals to Victory Over Gyrenes

AVE MARIA, Fla. – Two second half goals lifted Warner University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Ave Maria University on Thursday.  The win is the fourth in a row for the Lady Royals, their best four game stretch in the last eight seasons, and improves their overall record to 4-1.  The game was also the Lady Royals first action of Sun Conference play, where they now have a 1-0 TSC record. The Gyrenes are now 3-2 on the year and 0-1 in league play.

After waiting out a rain delay before the game, the Lady Royals fell behind the Gyrenes in the first half after Katie Trudeau scored the game's first goal in the 39th minute.  The Gyrenes narrowly outshot the Lady Royals in the first half, 7-6, and led on the scoreboard 1-0 at halftime.

The Lady Royals turned up the pressure in the second half outshooting the host-Gyrenes 7-4.  The increased pressure led to Emily Roebke's first goal of the season in the 47th minute that tied the game at 1-1.  Naybet Febo picked up her third assist of the season as well.

The Warner offense had four offside calls in the final 20 minutes of the game as they tried to score the go ahead goal.  The reigning Sun Conference Offensive Player of the Week, Jamie Murray, finally broke through with a goal in the 85th minute to put Warner on top 2-1.  The goal was Murray's fifth of the season.

Goalkeeper Samantha Oliveira and the rest of the Lady Royals' defense made the score standup shutting out the Gyrenes for the final 52 minutes of the game.  Oliveira (1-0) made a season-high eight saves in the game.

Murray and teammate Breanna Martin led the offense with four shots on goal each in the game.  Overall the Lady Royals outshot the Gyrenes 13-11.

On Saturday, Sept. 27, the Lady Royals travel to Lakeland, Fla. to take on Southeastern University in their next conference showdown.  Kickoff is schedule for 11 a.m.
