Lady Royals Pick Up Fourth Conference Win of the Season

AVE MARIA, Fla. - Warner University women's volleyball team picked up their fourth Sun Conference victory of the season on Tuesday night with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-23) sweep over Ave Maria University.  The Lady Royals (5-8) are now 4-2 in league play and in third place in the conference standings.  The Gyrenes drop to 3-11 overall and are now 1-6 in league play.

The Gyrenes held a 16-13 lead in the first set before the Lady Royals took it back with a 9-4 run, 22-20.  The next three points went to Ave Maria as they looked to take an early lead in the match.  Following a timeout by head coach Chrissy Moskovits, the Lady Royals benefitted from back to back setting errors by the Gyrenes.  The miscues gave Warner their first shot at match point 24-22.  After a Gyrene kill, Tiffani Pate ended the first set with a kill, 25-23.

In the second set, the Lady Royals opened with a 6-1 run.  Marisa Moralobo had two early kills to lead the way.  The two sides exchanged the lead only twice in the second set; Taber Weeks broke a 13-13 tie with a service ace to give Warner the lead for good.  Adrienne Czaplewski ended the second set with a team-high five kills.

The third set was more of a back and forth affair with 11 tie scores and five lead changes.  Trailing 20-18 late in the set, the Lady Royals scored seven of the final 10 points as part of a 7-3 run to overtake the Gyrenes and preserve the sweep.

Adrienne Czaplewski recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 10 digs against the Gyrenes.  Tiffani Pate and Marisa Moralobo both finished with nine kills.

Thalia Mendez got her first start at libero and led all players with 15 digs and one service ace.

On Friday, Oct. 3, the Lady Royals travel across Crooked Lake to take on Webber International University at 7 p.m.
