Royals Lose a Heartbreaker to No. 8 Thomas University (Ga.)

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Warner University men's soccer team wrapped up their first Sun Conference road trip of the season on Saturday afternoon with a match against No. 8 Thomas University (Ga.) in the NAIA Network Game of the Week presented by Stretch Internet.  90 minutes was not enough to determine the winner in this one as the two sides headed to overtime locked in a 1-1 tie.  Finally in the 99th minute, Thomas' Patrick Ramdial scored the game winner.

The loss drops the Royals to 0-7-1 overall and 0-4 in conference play.  The Night Hawks improve to 9-2 and are now 3-1 in league play.

Mauricio Delgado opened the scoring in the 30th minute with the assist from Gianluca Cuomo.  Despite the first half goal, the Royals were outshot 9-6 in the first half.

Goal keeper David Bartalos made three saves in the first half as the Warner defense shutout the Night Hawks for the first 45 minutes of the game.

The shutout continued in the second half until the 65th minute when Thomas' Severin Abt netted the equalizer.  Shots were pouring in for the Night Hawks in the second half.
They outshot the Royals 21-7 but could not break through.

In the overtime period the Royals were less than two minutes away from forcing a second extra period when Ramdial gave the home team a 2-1 victory.

Bartalos finished with nine saves in the game.  Rommel Hippolyte led the Royals with five total shots in the game.   Delgado scored the lone goal and had two shots on frame as well.

The Royals return to the pitch on Wednesday night, Oct. 7, in a make-up of their rain out with Webber International University from back on Sept. 8.  The Royals and Warriors will get things started at 7 p.m. on the campus of Warner University.
