LAKE WALES, Fla. – In their first of six games this week, the Warner University baseball team lost to Colorado Christian University on Monday afternoon 12-5. The NCAA-II Cougars pick up their first win of the season (1-2) while the Royals drop to 2-6 in 2015.
The Royals got off to a great start with two runs in the first and two runs in the third inning. The Royals benefitted from some defensive miscues by the Cougars and led 4-1 after four innings.
In the fifth inning the Cougars scored three times to tie the game then blew the game open with five runs in the seventh inning.
Tomas Rivera drove home Warner's final run in the seventh inning with a single to centerfield.
In the ninth inning the Cougars tacked on three more runs to end the scoring 12-5.
Jose Hernandez got the start for the Royals and went four innings scattering four hits and four runs.
Blaine Rhea (0-1) took the loss in relief for the Royals with 1.2 innings pitched and five runs allowed (two earned).
Rivera finished with half of the Royals' offense going 4-for-4 with two runs scored and a double.
Randy Rodriguez and
Dylan Gross both went 1-for-4 while
George Kirkland was 1-for-3. Both Gross and
Anthony Dovale had stolen bases in the game as well.
The Royals take to the road tomorrow, Feb. 17, when they head to Clearwater, Fla. to face Clearwater Christian College. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Jack Russell Stadium.
