DAVENPORT, Iowa – On the second leg of their midwest trip, Warner University men's volleyball team picked up a pair of victories over Culver-Stockton College (Mo.) and No. 4 Saint Ambrose University (Iowa). The No. 7 Royals return home after a 3-1 road trip and are now 9-4 overall in 2015.
On Saturday, Feb. 21, the Royals swept their sixth match of the season in straight sets defeating the Wildcats of Culver-Stockton 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-12). After a back and forth start to the first two sets of the match, the Royals took a 3-1 lead in the third set and never looked back.
Joshua Jordan led the Royals' offense with 11 kills in the win.
Steven Vaughn and
Dylan Sechrest both had eight kills in the match. Collectively, the Royals finished with 40 kills in the match and posted a .363 hitting percentage.
Martin Krueger had 31 assists to pace the offense while also contributing five kills and five digs.
In their fourth match of the trip on Sunday, Feb. 22, the Royals faced off against perennial power Saint Ambrose in a rematch from the Molten Invitational in January where the Fighting Bees defeated the Royals 3-0. On Sunday however, the Royals had the upper hand winning 3-2 (25-23, 16-25, 26-28, 27-25, 15-7).
After splitting the first four sets, the Royals led halfway through the fifth and final set 7-4.
Devin Lofton had two kills early on for the Royals. The Fighting Bees scored the next point to make it 7-5 but the Royals rattled off three straight points to take a 10-5 lead.
With an 11-7 lead late in the set, the Royals scored four straight points to end the set and match 15-7.
Lofton finished with six kills in the match including three in the deciding fifth set. Vaughn and Sechrest led the team with 15 kills each. Jordan also reached double-digit kills with 10 in the win.
Krueger posted his third game of the season with at least 40 assists finishing with 44 against Saint Ambrose. He also had 11 digs and four kills.
Hui Ding led the Royals' back row with 15 digs while
Reggie Montalvo added 12 of his own.
