Royals Tie Night Hawks in Invitational Finale

LAKE WALES, Fla. - The 30th Annual Warner University Invitational wrapped up on Saturday with four seeded games.  In the fourth place game, the Royals and Night Hawks of Thomas University (Ga.) met in a non-conference match up and battled to a 6-6 tie due to time constraints.

The Night Hawks scored a run in each of the first two innings off Warner starter Dalton Kelley to take a 2-0 lead.  The Royals cut the Thomas lead in half with a run in the third inning. Broderick Rodocker reached on a fielder's choice and advanced all the way around the bases on two Night Hawks miscues.

After Thomas added another run in the fourth inning the Royals' offense came to life in the final three innings scoring five runs.  Kevin Gregg started the scoring onslaught with a RBI-single in the fifth inning.  Dylan Gross drove in a run in the sixth inning and Chris Mejia drove in a run in the seventh.

The Night Hawks trailed 6-3 entering the seventh inning but put their first three runners on base and scored three runs on three hits to tie the game.

The game was halted after the bottom of the seventh due to time constraints with two more tournament games still to be played at Warner University.

Dalton Kelley got the start in the tournament finale for the Royals and tossed six innings with five strikeouts.  Broderick Rodocker pitched the seventh inning and allowed one run on one hit.

The Royals' offense tallied nine hits against the Night Hawks and drew 10 walks.  Chris Mejia, George Kirkland and Chase Coon all collected two hits in the game.  Kirkland and Coon both hit doubles in the game as well.

The Royals will get Sunday off before returning to the diamond on Monday, March 16, to take on University of Rio Grande (Ohio).  First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
