No. 2 Eagles Pull Away Late, Down Royals 72-58 in Semifinals


DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – In The Sun Conference Men's Basketball Tournament semifinals, fifth seeded Warner University lost to top seeded and No. 2 Embry-Riddle University 72-58 on Monday night in the ICI Center.  The Royals now stand at 20-10 while the Eagles improve to 31-1 and advance to Tuesday night's tournament finale against third seeded Southeastern University.

The two sides were locked in a 29-29 battle after the first 20 minutes of action on Tuesday night.  The Eagles led by as many as seven points in the first half with 9:46 on the clock.  The Royals however, scored seven straight points and tied the game, 22-22, with 7:16 to go in the half.

The Eagles ran their lead back out to five down the stretch only to have the Royals come back and take the lead 29-27 on a Keevis Tukes three pointer with 2:13 on the clock. 
The Eagles' Cesar Pastrana ended the first half scoring with a pair of free throws to send the teams to the locker rooms tied at 29-29.

Tukes got the Royals off to a good start with two quick points to begin the second half but the Eagles scored nine straight points and led 38-31 at the 15:57 mark.  From there the Royals were forced to play catch up the rest of the way shooting 37% from the field in the second half.

The Eagles lead grew to double digits in the final minutes as they pulled away for good 72-58.

First Team All-Conference selection Warren Hall led the Royals with a double-double against the top seeded Eagles.  Hall finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds.  Keevis
Tukes followed with 15 points and was 4-of-5 from behind the arc.  Antonio Ansley came off the bench and chipped in 14 points for the Royals as well.
