Lady Royals Swept by Southeastern on Senior Day

LAKE WALES, Fla. – In their final regular season appearance at Daly Field, the Lady Royals softball team was shut out by cross-county rival Southeastern University. The two losses to their Sun Conference foe, drops the Lady Royals to 13-13-1 and 6-4 in league play. The Lady Fire improve to 31-10 overall, and 7-1 in conference play.

The Lady Fire came ready to play and stunned the Lady Royals with an eight run performance in the top of the opening inning. Brittany Winget (3-4) got the ball in the circle for the Lady Royals in game one and was unable to find her groove, allowing seven runs, one earned, on four hits. Winget went two-thirds of an inning before giving way to Erika Shick.

The Lady Royals scored a run in the bottom of the first and another in the bottom of the third, but it wasn't enough to combat the twelve hit performance from the Lady Fire. The home side recorded seven hits, including a 2-for-3 showing from Jelisa Potter. Nicole Comstock drove in both runs for the Lady Royals as the fell 11-2 in game one.

The Lady Fire maintained control of game two as well, scoring six unanswered runs before the Lady Royals put two on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh. Sam Gale, of the Lady Fire, was dominate in the circle for the vistors. Gale held the Lady Royals to just two hits in her six shutout innings of work.

Erika Shick went 3-for-3 at the dish in game two for the Lady Royals and also smacked her third homerun of the season over the left-field fence in the bottom of the seventh inning. Mackenzie Garcia and Jessica Adams recorded the only other two runs for Warner.

Chelsie Valentine (9-3) earned her third loss of the season. Valentine went seven complete innings and allowed six runs on nine hits.The sophomore struck out six Lady Fire batters in her 16th appearance of the season. 

The Lady Royals will hit the road for their final three Sun Conference series, starting with a double-header against Webber International University on Friday, April 17th  at 2 p.m. The Lady Royals will then head to Thomasville, G.a. to take on the Lady Nighthawks of Thomas University on Friday, April 24th.  Their final series will be against the Lady Sandsharks of South-Carolina Beaufort on Saturday, April 25th
