Softball Season Comes to an End in Conference Tournament


CLERMONT, Fla. - The 2015 softball season came to an end for Warner University on Friday, May 1, in an elimination game against No. 17 University of South Carolina-Beaufort on day two of The Sun Conference Tournament at the National Training Center.  The Lady Royals end the year with a 15-21-1 overall record.

The Lady Royals got on the scoreboard first against the Sand Sharks with a run in the third inning when Melissa Costero grounded out scoring Brittany Winget from third.

The Sand Sharks answered with four runs over the fourth and fifth innings to take a 4-1 lead.  In the bottom of the sixth inning, Nicole Comstock singled down the left field line scoring Jacqueline Gomez.

In the seventh inning, the Lady Royals brought the tying run to the plate with two outs but Jelisa Potter flew out to centerfield to end the game.

For the second straight day, Warner's Chelsie Valentine (10-8) pitched all seven innings.  Against the Sand Sharks Valentine scattered eight hits and four runs (two earned) while striking out two batters.

The Lady Royals had three extra base hits in the game.  Nicole Comstock was 2-for-3 with a triple and a RBI.  Makenzie Garcia and Erika Shick both recorded doubles going 1-for-3 at the plate.
