LAKE WALES, Fla. – The 2015 women's soccer season got underway for Warner University on Thursday afternoon as the Lady Royals played host to Bob Jones University (S.C.). The Lady Royals started the year off with a bang scoring two goals in each half en route to a 4-2 victory over the Bruins.
Nicole Screnock and
Jamie Murray scored the first two goals of the season for the Lady Royals in the first half. Murray assisted on Screnock's goal in the just the fourth minute of action.
Naybet Febo then picked up the assist in Murray's first of the season.
The Lady Royals carried a 2-1 advantage into halftime while outshooting the Bruins 9-4.
The trio of Febo, Murray and Screnock were again in the mix in the second half as the Lady Royals tacked on two more goals. Febo made it 3-1 Warner in the 61
st minute off an assist by Murray. Then in the 70
th minute, Murray scored her second of the game off an assist by Screnock.
Freshman
Sarah Bergkvist made her season debut in goal for the Lady Royals. Bergkvist stopped five shots while recording the victory.
The Lady Royals dominated the possession game with Febo and
Maria Diaz controlling things in the midfield. Along with Bergkivist,
Cynthia Peretti anchored the Lady Royals backline holding the Bruins to seven shots on goal.
Next week the Lady Royals return to the pitch in an exhibition match versus Polk State College. The 7 p.m. match will be held in Lake Wales on the campus of Warner University.
