LAKE WALES, Fla. - The 2015 Warner University men's soccer season got underway on Friday night with the first-ever meeting between the Royals and Florida National University. The Conquistadors are in their first season of intercollegiate competition. After 90 minutes of play the two sides battled to a 1-1 draw.
It was a fast and furious start for the Warner defense as the visiting Conquistadors put the pressure on in the first half to the tune of 10 shots. Newcomer David Bartalos was up to the challenge in goal for the Royals making five saves.
Florida National broke a 0-0 tie in the second half with a goal in the 62
nd minute. The Royals responded in the 85
th minute with their first goal of the season.
Renaldo Brown took a pass from Gianluca Cuomo and knotted the game at 1-1.
Both teams had opportunities in the final five minutes but neither could find the back of the net.
Bartalos made seven saves with 90 minutes logged in goal for the Royals.
Next Saturday, Sept. 5, the Royals head to St. Petersburg, Fla. to take on NCAA-II Eckerd College. The match will start at 7 p.m. at the Turley Athletic Complex.
