Lady Royals Sweep Past Fighting Koalas 3-0


LAKELAND, Fla. - Playing their first match of the season in the Sunshine State, Warner University women's volleyball team won 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-16) over Columbia College (S.C.).  Playing their first of two matches at Southeastern University's Sportsplex, the Lady Royals picked up their first 3-0 sweep of the season and are now 2-3 on the year.

After falling behind 4-0 in the first set, Lady Royals came all the way back and took their first lead of the match, 12-11, on an Adrienne Czaplewski kill.  The Lady Royals caught fire from there and went on the take the first set thanks to a 9-1 run.

The Lady Royals scored the final four points of the second set to go ahead 2-0 over the Fighting Koalas.  Czaplewski and Navarro had two kills each in the set.  The third set was all Warner as the Lady Royals breezed past the Fighting Koalas 25-16.

Jenna Swaffer helped pace the offense for the Lady Royals with 24 assists and two service aces.  She also tallied 15 digs.  Angie Pagan-Perez finished with a team-high 11 kills to lead the way.  Navarro and Czaplewski both had nine kills in the match.  Czaplewski was third on the team with 13 digs as well.

Thalia Mendez had 18 digs to lead the Lady Royals.  Nicole Wittmer had success at the serving line against Columbia with three aces on the night.

On Saturday, Aug. 29, the Lady Royals schedule includes a morning game against Pensacola Christian College at 9 a.m. in Lakeland.  Then at 7 p.m. the Lady Royals will take on defending NCAA-II National Champion University of Tampa in an exhibition match in Tampa.
