LAKE WALES, Fla. – Week four of the college football season rolls along this Saturday, Sept. 19, for Warner University with a trip to Melbourne, Fla. as they take on Florida Tech at 7 p.m.
The Royals enter their second road game of the season with a 2-1 record following a 45-9 loss last week against Southeastern University in their Sun Conference opener. In their first road game of the season, the Royals defeated Union College (Ky.) 42-21.
Through the first three weeks of the season, quarterback
Darrin Davis, Jr. and running back
Bryant Benton lead the Royals' offense. Davis, Jr. has passed for 396 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 62 yards and another touchdown. Benton has 143 yards on the grounds and a team-high three touchdowns.
Defensively,
Loronza Smith leads a Warner defensive unit that has forced 11 turnovers in their first three games. Smith has a team-high 24 tackles, one interception and two forced fumbles so far in 2015.
Larry Faison is second on the team with 19 tackles including three for a loss and one sack.
Patrick Moreland leads the Royals' secondary with two of the team's six interceptions. As a whole the Royals' defense ranks amongst the top 50 teams in the country in several statistical categories including pass defense per game (10
th) and total defense per game (20
th).
The NCAA-II Panthers are 0-2 thus far in 2015 and are coming off a 28-17 road loss to Southeastern Louisiana University last week. The Panthers lost their season opener to Newberry College (S.C.) 31-28. The Panthers are members of the Gulf South Conference which currently boasts four teams in the top 11 of the American Football Coaches Association Division II Coaches' Poll.
Through their first two games of the season the Panthers have done the most damage through the air with 620 yards coming off the arm of quarterback Sean Ashley. Ashley has completed 48-of-85 pass attempts with three touchdowns in two games for the Panthers. T.J. Lowder, Gabe Hughes and Kenny Johnston make up a three-headed receiving attack for the Panthers all with over 150 yards receiving through two games.
Chris Stapleton leads the Florida Tech defense with 18 total tackles including two for a loss. J.J. Sanders leads the team with two sacks and has 11 tackles through two games as well.
