TAMPA, Fla. – In their second straight match against an NCAA-II opponent, Warner University men's soccer team fell on the road against the University of Tampa 3-1 on Wednesday night. After playing to a 1-1 halftime score, the Spartans scored twice in the second half to hand the Royals their third loss of the season (0-3-1).
The Spartans scored the game's first goal in the seventh minute on a penalty kick and held the 1-0 lead until the 11
th minute when
Gianluca Cuomo scored the equalizer. Both
Austin Shaner and
Sebastian Liscano assisted on the goal.
It was an even first half for both sides with seven shots a piece.
The Spartans picked up their offensive pressure in the second half outshooting the Royals 14-4. The added shots led to a pair of goals in the 74
th and 87
th minute extending the Tampa lead to 3-1.
Cuomo led the Royals with five shots in the game. Priit Pedo finished with two shots as well.
David Bartalos made five saves in goal for the Royals playing the full 90 minutes.
The Royals will open the Sun Conference portion of their 2015 schedule next Wednesday night, Sept. 23, at home against Keiser University (formerly Northwood University). Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
