Bobcats Upset No. 7 Royals 62-49

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – In their second trip to south Florida this week, No. 7 Warner University men's basketball team was upset 62-49 by St. Thomas University on Thursday night in Fernandez Family Center.  It's just the second time this season the Royals have been held to less than 65 points.  The loss is the first in Sun Conference play this year for the Royals and snaps a three-game winning streak.

On a tough offensive night for the visitors, the Royals struggled to get anything going in the first half leading by as many as three points with 9:50 to go before halftime.  The Royals made just nine baskets in the first 20 minutes and turned the ball over 11 times.

Defensively, however, the Royals held the Bobcats to 37% shooting in the first half and trailed only 29-27 at halftime.  A trio of Royals led the way with six points each in the first half.  Eddie Delegal had six rebounds to go along with his six points.  Warren Hall and Jamie Anderson both scored six points as well.

In the second half the Royals were outshot and outrebounded by the Bobcats and could not mount a comeback.  The Bobcats led by as many as 15 points down the stretch before settling for the 13-point victory.

Antonio Ansley was the leading scorer for the Royals with 11 points.  Hall and Delegal both finished with 10 points.  Delegal was the leading rebounder for the Royals with eight in the game.

The Royals (13-4/4-1) will look to bounce back in a big way on Saturday, Jan. 16, as they return home to face No. 10 Keiser University in the NAIA Network Game of the Week.  The Royals and Seahawks will get underway shortly after the conclusion of the women's game which is slated to begin at 2 p.m.  Tip-off for the men's game will be approximately 4 p.m.  Fans can watch the game live by clicking here.
