LAKE WALES, Fla. – After losing consecutive games for the first time all season, No. 11 Warner University men's basketball team got back to their winning ways on Wednesday night with a 17-point victory over Ave Maria University. The Royals won the game 76-59 to improve to 14-5 overall and 5-2 in The Sun Conference.
After three tie scores in the first five minutes of action, Warner's
Antonio Ansley put the Royals ahead with 14:50 to go in the game. The Gyrenes kept things close the rest of the half, however, holding the Royals' lead to seven points or less.
At the break the Royals led 36-30 behind eight points each from Ansley and
Warren Hall. The Royals also held a 17-15 rebounds advantage in the first half.
In the second half, the Royals torched the Gyrenes for 40 points on 60.9% shooting from the field. Hall scored 15 points in the period as the Royals led by as many as 19 points.
The Royals' defense continues to play at a high level forcing 15 Gyrene turnovers on Wednesday night. The Royals scored 18 points off the extra possessions.
Hall finished the game with 23 points and 10 rebounds to record his first double-double of the season. He was perfect from the free throw line going 10-for-10. Hall also had five assists and two steals.
Eddie Delegal scored 15 points and had three blocks in the win as well. Ansley and
Josh Ellis both had 10 points in the game.
On Saturday, Jan. 23, the Royals play their final non-conference game of the season at home against Florida National University. The Royals and Conquistadors will tip-off at 4 p.m. inside the Turner Athletic Center.
