Night Hawks Defeat Lady Royals 72-49



THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Warner University women's basketball team lost on the road to Thomas University (Ga.) 72-49 on Monday night.  The loss drops the Lady Royals to 7-10 on the season and 2-5 in The Sun Conference.  The win evens the Night Hawks' record at 9-9 and their conference record at 4-4.

The Lady Royals trailed by four after the first 10 minutes of action, 13-9.  In the second quarter, the Night Hawks outscored the Lady Royals 15-5 and took a 28-14 lead into halftime. 

In the second half, the Lady Royals fell behind 48-26 after three quarters of play but rallied in the fourth quarter scoring 23 points.  The comeback fell short however, as the Night Hawks poured in 24 points of their own in the final quarter handing the Lady Royals their tenth loss of the season.

As a team the Lady Royals combined to shoot 29.3% from the field in the game.  They did have success from behind the arc going 6-for-14.  Sara Poehlman was 3-for-4 from long distance and finished with nine points.

I'munique Green led the Warner offense with 11 points in the game.  Khale Chandler scored 10 points off the bench and was 4-for-4 from the free throw line.

It was a tough night on glass for the Lady Royals as the Night Hawks won the rebound battle 50-28.  Corlisa Pope led the way for the Lady Royals with eight rebounds in the loss.  Green was second on the team with six boards as well.

The Lady Royals return home on Thursday, Jan. 28, in a rematch versus cross-county rivals Southeastern University.  Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. in the Turner Athletic Center.
