Royals Victorious In Lake Caloosa Clash

Box Score LAKE WALES, Fla.- The Royals football team looked to end their regular season with a win over cross lake rival Webber International University Saturday night at Legion Field. The Royals came out of the gate and struck first on a 10 play 70 yard drive that was capped off by DJ Davis' 2 yard touchdown run to go up 7-0. Webber would get the second quarter started with a 10 play 73 yard touchdown drive to tie the game up at seven with 11:42 remaining in the half. On the Royals next possession they drove down the field 81 yards on 9 plays with the last one being a 23 yard touch run by Jerome Lindo. This put the Royals up 14-7 with 7:50 left in the first half. The Royals would force a Warriors punt then take the ball 38 yards on 9 plays that would end with a 25 yard Geness Kennedy field goal to put Warner up 17-7 into halftime.

Webber would take their opening drive of the second half 54 yards on 5 plays for a touchdown to get within three 17-14. However, the Royals would storm right back with a 5 yard touchdown pass from DJ Davis to Theo Hammonds in the back corner of the end zone to cap off a 5 play, 44 yard drive and extend the Royals lead to 24-14. Webber would force a fumble and recover it on the Royals 20 yard line. Then six plays later, they would punch it into the end zone for another touchdown and to cut the Warner lead to 24-21. The Royals defense would step up the rest of the game and not allow Webber to get into the end zone again. Geness Kennedy would add another 25 yard field goal at the end of the third quarter then split the uprights one more time from 25 yards out with 9:56 remaining in the game to put the Royals up 30-21 in the fourth quarter. Webber, down 9, got the ball back with 2:22 left on the clock. The Royals needed a big defensive stop to get the ball back and secure the win. On fourth and two, Drew Clark stepped up big and sacked the Warriors quarterback to get the ball back in the hands of the Royals and preserve the 30-21 victory over Webber. Bryant Benton would rush for a first down and allow DJ Davis to take a knee as the clock ticked down to 00:00 and the Royals celebrated victory.

The win improves the Royals record to 6-2 (3-1) on the season. Warner was led offensively by DJ Davis who went 13-19 for 149 yards and a touchdown plus ran 24 times for 110 yards and a touchdown. Bryant Benton rushed 20 times for 114 yards and Jerome Lindo ran the ball 4 times for 33 yards and a touchdown. Jeff Suarez had 7 catches for 53 yards, Eugene Witherspoon had 3 catches for 60 yards, and Theo Hammonds had 2 catches for 16 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Warner was led by Emmanuel Bien-Aime who had 14 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss. Raheem Phillips had 7 tackles, Travell Sherrod had 6, and Lane Burnett had 6 tackles with 2.5 tackles for loss and 1 sack. Henrislot Luma would come away with 3 tackles and 2 sacks on the day as well. 

The Royals end their regular season and now await the verdict on the Victory Bowl to see who they will play on December 3.
