Box Score LAKE WALES, Fla.- The Warner Royals women's volleyball team faced off with the Southern Wesleyan Warriors for the second consecutive year in the NCCAA South Region Championship game. Last year, the Warriors got the best of the Royals, but this year it was all Warner as the Royals went on to win 3-1 over Southern Wesleyan. In the first game, the Royals and Warriors came out point for point until Warner went on a 9-1 run mid-way through the set to go on to win the first game handily 25-17. The second set was much more competitive as Southern Wesleyan came out much more ready for a battle. Both teams were neck and neck throughout the majority of the set. The Royals went on a 5-1 run late but the Warriors answered with a 5-2 run of their own. However, in the end, the Royals would score three of the four final points of the game to take the set 25-22 and a 2-0 lead in the match. Set three saw both teams dominate consecutive points before finally the Royals found themselves with a 23-21 lead and was staring a three set sweep right in the eyes. The Warriors had other plans as they scored the sets final four points to win 25-23 and get themselves back in the match. In set four, the Warriors jumped up on Warner early and had them on the ropes a bit. The Royals never gave in and played right with the Warriors, however. Then late in the set, the Royals jumped ahead 20-19 then used a 4-0 run to take back the drivers seat with a commanding 24-19 lead. The Warriors had fight in them as they scored a couple points, but the Royals would get a kill and put away Southern Wesleyan for a 25-22 set four win and 3-1 match victory to claim the South Region title.
Adrienne Czaplewski led the Royals with a game high 23 kills and.291 hitting percentage. Angie Pagan Perez had 10 kills and
Nicole Wittmer had 7 for Warner.
Raygen Lee led the Royals with 35 assists and
Thalia Mendez led defensively with 30 digs in the contest.
The Royals will now await their seeding for the NCCAA National Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla., December 1-3.
