Royals Football Handles Tigers

Box Score LAKE WALES, Fla.- The Warner Royals football team took on the visitng Edward Waters College Tigers on Saturday afternoon at Legion Field. Fresh off receiving votes into the NAIA top 25, the Royals looked to make a statement against the Tigers. The Royals came out and scored on their second posession on a 4 yard touchdown run by Bryant Benton to take an early 7-0 lead. The Tigers, however, would come back and score 14 unanswered points as they scored touchdowns runs of 2 and 3 yards to go up 14-7 in the second quarter. With halftime looming, the Royals got the ball back in hopes of tying the game before the half was over. The Royals did just that as it took only 46 seconds for them to score on a 4 yard touchdown pass from DJ Davis to Theo Hammonds. With the game now tied at 14, the Royals kicked off to the Tigers for the final 20 seconds of the half. However, the Royals forced a fumble on the return and recovered it at the Tigers 4 yard line. The Royals were now just four yards away from taking a lead into halftime. Just 10 seconds later DJ Davis rushed the ball into the endzone for a touchdown and a 21-14 lead at halftime.

The second half was all Warner as Jerome Lindo ran the first score of the second half in from 9 yards out to go up 28-14. In the fourth quarter, Davis would strike again in a big way as he hit Eugene Witherspoon for a 47 yard touchdown pass and a 35-14 lead for the Royals. The Tigers would block a field goal and return it for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to make the score 35-21, but the Royals were not done yet. Jerome Lindo would again run another one in, this time form 13 yards out, to give the Royals a 42-21 lead and victory. The Royals would improve to 5-2 (3-1) on the season after the win.

Warner was led offensively by DJ Davis who went 6-14 for 68 yards and 2 touchdowns and also rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown. Bryant Benton rushed 22 times for 143 yards and a touchdown while Jerome Lindo had 6 rushes for 65 yards and 2 touchdowns. Eugene Witherspoon and Theo hammonds led the receivers with Witherspoon coming away with a catch for 47 yards and a touchdown and Hammonds with 4 catches for 19 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, the Royals were led by Drew Clark who had 6 tackles with 3 for loss and Emmanuel Bien-Aime with 7 total tackles. 

Warner will finish off the regular season Saturday November 12 at 7 pm against rival Webber International University. The game will be played at Legion Field in Lake Wales and will be a home game for Warner.
