LAKE WALES,Fla.- The first game of the double header between the Royals and Cougars from Columbia College proved to be exciting all the way to the end. The Royals jumped on the board first with a Brittany Winget single in the second inning that plated Kaitlyn Ficarrotta to give them a 1-0 advantage. That lead held until the fourth when an inside the park homerun by Columbia tied the game at 1. The fifth and sixth innings saw the Cougars plate one run each inning to give them a 3-1 advantage and the momentum late in the game. However, the Royals stormed back in the bottom of the sixth. Ficarrotta got an RBI ground out that made the score 3-2. Then with 2 outs and runners on second and third, Winget pulled the dagger that would ultimately put aay the Cougars with a 2 RBI single to right field. The Royals would hold on to that 4-3 advantage in the seventh for the game one victory. Winget finished the game going 2-3 with 3 RBI's.

Game 2 saw the host struggle to keep the visiting Cougars off the base paths as they racked up 12 hits in the contest. The Royals did a good job limiting damage as Columbia only scored 4 runs, but the Royals were unable to get a rally going offensively and only plated a single run in the seventh to fall in game 2 to Columbia 4-1. Ficarrotta led the offense going 2-3 with the lone RBI of the game for the Royals. Tori Johnson came in relief pitching and finished with 3 innings pitched and not allowing a run. 

The Royals will be hopping on a bus to Georgia and South Carolina this weekend as they take on conference foes Thomas University and University of South Carolina at Beaufort. Game times will be Friday at Thomas 1 and 3 p.m. and at USCB Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m.
