Box Score DELAND, Fla.- The Warner Royals football team took a ride down I-4 to Stetson University to take on the Hatters Saturday night. The Royals did not have the start that they were looking for as Stetson was able to get into the endzone on their first two possessions to take a very early 13-0 lead. The defense would settle in though and hold the Hatters scoreless on their next three possessions. The Royals would get a field goal in the second quarter from Geness Kennedy May but would go into halftime down 27-3.
The Royals would come out in the second half a new team. The defense held the Hatters scoreless on 4 out of their 5 second half possessions, only allowing a field goal in the fourth quarter. The offense would come alive as well in the second half as they were able to get in the end zone twice on two touchdown passes by
Steven Frost. The first was a very exciting 59 yard feed to
Jamal McIntyre who broke loose and outran everyone to the goal line. The second was a 10 yard strike to Theo Hammonds on a very well ran route and well placed ball. The Royals would outscore the Hatters 12-3 in the second half but the big Stetson first half would prevail for a 30-15 Stetson victory.
The Royals were led passing by
Steven Frost who finished 6-17 for 106 and 2 touchdowns.
Bryant Benton rushed for 65 yards on 11 carries while Theo Hammonds hauled in the most passes with 4 for 44 yards and a touchdown. Defensively the Royals were paced by
Emmanuel Bien-Aime who had 12 total tackles along with
Leonard Faison with 10 total tackles.
Warner has a bye week this week and will be back to play on September 24 as they will begin Sun Conference play with an away game at Southeastern University. Game time will be at 7 pm.
