Box Score LAKE WALES, Fla.- When the Royals showed up to play the Webber Warriors Wednesday night, the sun was setting and the evening was about to begin. However, just before game time the rain came very strong. By the time the first set was mid-way through, the rain had stopped and fans were pouring into the gym. There ended up being around 1,000 very loud and rowdy fans for the rivalry game. Warner did not have the start they expected as they were down 8-2 early in the first set. After a timeout, the Royals regained some momentum and came back to tie the set at 15. However, the Warriors ended up going on one last run late and took the set 25-20.
With the Royals down a set, they came out like bandits and taking over control of the second set. The Royals would eventually build a 14-9 lead mid-way through. The Royals would hold a steady lead throughout most of the set but the Warriors would make a bit of a comeback getting within one point at 23-22. The Royals however, would finish off their rivals in set two 25-23 to tie the match.
After the break and going into set three, both sides made some good adjustments as there was very good volleyball being played on both sides of the court. The set went back and forth with neither team holding more than a one point lead until the Warriors found a groove to go ahead 18-12. From there, the Royals had a tough time getting anything going to gain some momentum and Webber took set three 25-19.
The Royals were in familar territory, however, as they were down 2-1 to another rival, Southeastern, just a week ago and were able to come back to win the match. Both sides went back and forth with teams going on runs of their own to go ahead then relinquish the lead to their opponent. Webber took control late with a four point run to go up 21-17 late in the set. The Royals would fight to get the set to 22-20 but the Warriors would score the final three piints to take set four 25-20 and the match 3-1 over the Royals. Warner would fall to 7-4 (3-2) and Webber would improve to 13-1 (5-0) overall after the match.
The Royals were led offensively by Adreinne Czaplewski as she had a season high 28 kills and Angie Pagan Perez with 18 kills. Kiara Rivera Escudero would come away with 44 assists and
Thalia Mendez led Warner defensively with 20 digs.
The Royals will be back in action in the TAC Saturday October 1 at 2 p.m. against Florida Memorial.
